Helping men who have been raped and sexually abused

Congratulations from The Men’s Network to Survivors Manchester, the charity for men who have been raped and sexually abused,  which celebrated its 3rd birthday this month.

In its first three years in operation Survivors Manchester has supported over 175 male survivors of childhood sexual abuse, sexual violence and rape; talked to a number of wives, girlfriends, boyfriends and civil partners about being in a relationship with a man whose dealing with the impact of sexual abuse; presented various seminars, workshops, and training sessions to audiences as wide ranging as police officers, doctors, housing workers, insurance underwriters, social workers, counsellors, therapists, support workers, nurses, probation officers, consultants, accountants, drug workers; written articles and been interviewed for various publications; assisted 7 individuals to disclose to the Police and begin the process of making a formal complaint; and taken a seat at various forums including the Home Office Sexual Violence Forum.

The charity says it has achieved an incredible amount of success but more importantly so have its service users! In the forthcoming year Survivors Manchester will be launching a new website; working towards securing funding which will enable it to deliver services more frequently and cut down waiting and response times; getting involved in various projects with community partners; and continuing its effort to provide a safe space for those boys that wish to break their silence, take back their power and live the life they choose!

We want to wish Survivors Manchester every success in helping more men and boys who have been raped and sexually abused to get help and support in future. We need great projects like this operating in every town, city and county in the UK.
