An Introduction To The Strategy

The ‘Our Strategy’ section of The Men’s Network blog outlines the first draft of our Citywide Strategy For Men & Boys which we have called A City That Works For Everyone – Including Men and Boys.

Our intention is to roll-out this strategy from April 2011 and so we are now undergoing a process of consultation to gather feedback on our plans from lots of different people. You are welcome to post your feedback directly onto the blog using the ‘Leave A Comment’ function or contact The Men’s Network directly if you prefer.

In the strategy we detail how The Men’s Network intends to work with a broad range of partners in Brighton & Hove to help improve the way the city works for men and boys in a way that serves and supports the city’s existing Sustainable Communities Strategy.

The Sustainable Communities Strategy is owned, developed and implemented by Brighton & Hove’s Strategic Partnership (our city’s LSP or Local Strategic Partnership) – which is family of partnerships uniting a broad range of public, not-for-profit and private sector organisations which operate in our city.

The partnership has called its strategy ‘Creating the City of Opportunities’. Its vision is to provide opportunities for everyone to contribute to the creation of a more sustainable and successful Brighton & Hove by reducing inequality, reducing disadvantage and improving quality of life for all our residents.

Our strategy provides a framework for Brighton & Hove’s Strategic Partnership to identify and tackle the inequality experienced by men and boys in the city in a way that supports the partnership in its commitment to reduce disadvantage and improve quality of life for all our residents.

At the heart of our strategy is a commitment to develop the city as a World Centre of Excellence For Men and Boys and it is worth noting that the strategic approach we are taking in Brighton & Hove is groundbreaking and not only amplifies some of the excellent work that already exists, but also creates an environment that promotes innovation and inspires new approaches to working with men and boys that can have a global impact.

It is important to note that while this strategy has not been through a process of formal adoption by the city it has been designed in service of the city and will help the Brighton & Hove Strategic Partnership to focus on the specific needs of men and boys in way that makes it easier to deliver on the objectives of The Sustainable Communities Strategy.
